Titans stand tall in the Saucony Battle of Atlanta

Though the competition was fierce, the XC Titans represented NOHS well this past Saturday at the Saucony Battle of Atlanta held at Nash Farms Battleground in Hampton, GA. With favorable weather and large crowds, the Titans ran strong along side many of the best runners in the state. Way to go Titans!!! Titan Harriers Face Monster Field at Nash Farms Battlefield

North Oconee runners found the competition worthy of the hype on Saturday at the Saucony Battle of Atlanta, but managed to place a respectable 6th (of 31) in the boys' varsity field and 10th (of 44) in the girls' varsity division. The girls' JV had the highest finish of the day, taking second among 17 teams, and the boys' JV ran 5th of 22. 

Thomas Moore followed up his course-record-breaking run at NEGA with a top-ten effort, placing 8th (of 371) in 16:34. Anthony Potts secured 33rd in 17:11. Harper Sigler took 59th in 17:48 as Dawson Frey (69th in 18:00) and Austin Joost 85th in 18:11 took top-five spots. Andrew Cowick (121st in 18:37) and Brady Kalessa (122nd in 18:37) rounded out the Titan scoring. 

In the girls' varsity race, Mackenzie Morse continued to pace the Lady Titans with a 34th place (of 308 ) finish in 20:54. Gabby Huff-Streiter provided strong support, taking 69th in 21:47. Hollis Brown (90th in 22:11), Sophie Brown (90th in 22:13), and Kate Mattison (93rd in 22:15) provided a strong pack. Melanie Bowden (97th; 22:18) and Courtney Jones (124th in 22:48) rounded out the team top seven. 

The trophy-winning girls' JV got 5th and 6th place overall finishes from Anna Cobb (23:02) and Allie Dominicali (23:11). Anna Marie Garmon claimed a top-ten spot (10th in 23:32). Amelia Veal was 17th (24:14), while Amy Gayer ran 24th (24:25). Peyton Coates finished 25th (24:29), and Komal Parikh (30th in 24:52).

Once again Jacob Ash lead the way for the boys' JV (17th in 19:21). Wanya Newton (50th; 20:38), Jon Hobus (54th; 20:51), Daniel Smith (79th; 21:25), Joel Winston (80th; 21:26), and Mark Bowden (90th; 21:38) took top-seven team finishes. 

North Oconee will race next on Thursday, Sept. 3rd, as they host a 16-team meet on the Oconee Community Course.

Titans Open Season with Multiple Wins

Thomas Moore opened his senior season by setting a new NEGA course record with a 16:07 In leading the Titans to a first-place finish in the 17-team championship boys' division. Junior Anthony  Potts claimed a top-ten individual spot (10th in 17:25). Dawson Frye, a freshman, debuted with 18:00 for 23rd.  Junior Austin Joost took 25th in 18:09, and freshman Brady Kalessa was 27th in 18:13. Seniors Harper Sigler and Andrew Cowick rounded out the top seven with spots 42 and 43 (18:47, 18:48) respectively. 

The Lady Titans had impressive showings in both the championship flight (3rd of 13) and the varsity division (1st of 25). Newcomer Mackenzie Morse, a junior, paced the team with 14th place overall (20:58). Sophomore Sophie Brown ran 21:33 (25th) with Sophomore Gabby Huff-Streiter 27th in 21:38. Melanie Bowden and Courtney Jones claimed the other team top-five finishes (38th and 43rd) with times of 22:22 and 22:42. 

In the girls' varsity race, Allie Dominicali (a senior, 6th in 22:43) and sophomore Kate Mattison, 7th in 22:46 led the Lady Titan pack. Sophomore Anna Marie Garmon took 11th (23:26). First-year runner Anna Cobb, a sophomore, contributed a 23:48 (13th), and junior Amelia Veal completed the scoring with a 24:30 (23rd). 

In the boys' varsity division, the Titans were 13th of 30 teams. Jacob Ash (25th in 19:45), Ryan Roddy(38th in 20:03), Joel Winston (78th in 21:28), Daniel Smith (116th in 22:04), Nicholas Schuff (164th in 23:09), Jon Hobus (188th in 23:46), Jack Schuff (212th in 24:45), and Matthew Parker (222nd in 24:57) contributed the seven scores. 

In the girls' JV division, which covered 3K, the Lady Titans again took the team title. Several Titans had top 10 performances: Amy Gayer was 1st overall, Peyton Coates was 3rd, and Christina Vogt was 10th. Christa Lynn Moore (17th), Komal Parikh (19th), Maggie Morris (29th) and Ellis Hudson (46th) rounded out the scoring. 

The boys' JV placed third among 19 teams. Wanya Newton led the way (11th), Mark Bowden (29th), Ian Buchanan (31st), Cole Lannon (37th), Franco Plathottathil ((38th), Lucas Keeton (43rd), and JJ Ekeler (55th) claimed top-seven scores. 

The Titans race nest in the Saucony Battle of Atlanta on August 29th. The meet is at Nash Farms Battlefield in Hampton, Ga.

Titans Run Well at NEGA XC Championships

North Oconee made a strong statement in the first meet of the season on Saturday posting excellent results across the board. The Titans took first place in the  championship division led by Thomas Moore's first place overall finish (and new course record!) while the Lady Titans finished 3rd in the Championship race and 1st in the Varsity race. Congratulations to everyone on a great day on the trails.
