Titans slog their way to great finishes at state

Coach Moore's Report

Lady Titans Clinch Best Finish Ever with 3rd Place at State; Boys' Finish 5th

On a Carrollton course battered by several weeks of rain, North Oconee's Lady Titan squad of sophomores and juniors claimed their highest finish in state ever on Saturday, taking third. This makes 6 top-five team finishes for the team since 2008. Junior Mackenzie Morse was 8th overall, clocking 21:43. Sophomores Gabby Huff-Streiter (17th in 22:16) and Kate Mattison (34th in 22:45) followed. Junior Hollis Brown ran 51st in 23:31, and sophomore Sophie Brown took 55th in 23:34. Sophomore Courtney Jones (67th in 23:53) and Melanie Bowden (79th in 24:24) rounded out the top seven.

In the boys' race, Thomas Moore finished a stellar senior season with 12th place (17:48). Junior Anthony Potts was next for the Titans (22nd in 18:10). Seniors Harper Sigler (38th in 18:33) and Andrew Cowick (48th in 18:59) capped their Titan harrier careers. Frosh Brady Kalessa (62nd in 19:23) rounded out the top five, as frosh Dawson Frey (63rd in 19:23) and sophomore Jacob Ash (66th in 19:24) contributed varsity scores. Since 2009 the boys' team has six top-five state finishes.

The teams added Clarke-Oconee and Region 8-AAAA championships to their season accomplishments.
